Local, healthy, natural. Whether it is natural soap, home made sausage, a shopping community or a solar heater made from beer cans – local products, solutions and communities are becoming more and more popular in Hungary these days. People are looking for healthy products from known sources that also support their local community. On the other hand also the number of initiatives and individuals engaged in the production of sustainable goods and services is quickly increasing – this includes initiatives ranging from “eco villages” (more than ten cooperate in the Hungarian Living Villages Network) to the production of home made candles.

Bankwatch’s Hungarian member group National Society of Conservationists – Friends of the Earth Hungary has been working to promote such initiatives for more than 25 years. Together with our 110 member groups we can work at a grassroots level to plan, implement and spread such solutions. We also advocate for more support and a better legislative environment on regional and national levels. Over the last decade we successfully campaigned for more funding for sustainable local solutions being made available from EU funds.
